The largest city in the state of Chattisgarh, Raipur, is its capital too. Raipur is a burgeoning industrial center. There are a number of large and middle scale industries in Raipur. The Laxman Temple and Gandheswar Temple feature among the popular Raipur holy places. Actually located in Sirpur, which in turn is situated at a one hour distance to the east of Raipur, the temples date back to the 7th century. The Laxman Temple is counted among the finest beach temples in India. Besides being highly revered, the temple is also renowned for exquisite and intricate carvings. The Gandheswar Temple is located down the road. Constructed on the banks of the Mahanadi River, the temples construction has in interesting historical background. The architectural remains of the quaint temples and vihars were recycled and used as the building materials.

Champaran in Raipur feature as another important tourist draw. It is also counted among the venerated holy places in Raipur. Champaran, originally known as Champajhar, has a deep religious significance. It enjoys a distinctive importance as the birth place of Saint Vallabhacharya, Champaran has a temple dedicated to the saint. The Champakeshwara Mahadeva Temple, is located close to this temple.

Tourists visiting Raipur also make it a point to visit the Rajivalochan Temple. Counted among the popular tourist attractions in Raipur, the temple is an ancient one dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The presiding deity is Lord Vishnu enshrined as Rajivalochan. A 45 km drive from Raipur to Rajim will take you to the temple.
