India offers a variety of exciting holiday destinations, numerous cultures, and a myriad of experiences. The country has been luring travelers from around the globe for centuries and continues to date. Endorsing the diverse interests, the Indian Ministry of Tourism reveals the travel and tourism highlights of 2017.
To start with achievements in the calendar year 2017, the biggest one is India’s improved rank in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI). India held the 40th position in 2017 in comparison to the 52nd position in 2015 and 65th in 2013. The rising rank is a major indicator of improvement in the country’s tourism potential over the last few years.
Next, statistics reveal how much India is loved as a travel destination and by number of travelers from other parts of the world. 2017 marked the Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) between the months of January and November, as many as 90.01 lakh. The 2017 figures are almost a 15.6 percent growth over the numbers of 2016 in the same period.
Also, the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the Indian E-Tourist Visa (eTV) in 2017 showed a total of 14.57 lakh foreign tourists as compared to the 9.17 lakh during January-November 2016. The yearlong figures are almost a growth of 58.8 percent.
Further adding to the positive statistics of 2017, are the rising numbers of domestic travelers. The number of domestic tourists visiting the different states and union territories was 1613.6 million in 2016 as compared to 1432.0 million in 2015, showing 12.7% growth in 2016 over 2015.
