Birthplace of Radha, Barsana is set at a distance of 42 km from Mathura. During the festival, men from Mathura, the land of Krishna come to play Holi with the girls of Barsana. They try hard to raise their flag over Shri Radhikaji’s temple.
They are welcomed with sticks instead of colors. This is how the festival gets a new name, Lathmaar Holi. Men remain fully padded and they keep trying to save themselves from the stick battle. The unlucky one’s, who get good thrashing from the sticks, are made to wear female attire and dance in public.

thanks for sharing this as i am an indian so love to read it
Great collection. Keep informing us.
Amazing write up! From the beginning till end the flow is flawless and narrative gripping. These are some wonderful ideas indeed to seek refuge from the punishing summers of India. I have already welcomed it with Holi. Trekking is wonderful ideas and I am planning the Valley of Flower hopefully in August if everything goes according to plan.
Good that you have mentioned wildlife. As opposed to popular belief that winter months are best for wildlife safaris in India, it is during summer especially the hotter month of March till May that offer the best chances of spotiing the big cats in the wild.
Rafting sounds great idea and if I go rafting in Rishikesh, Bungee Jumping would be too tempting to miss 🙂 Can’t spoil myself at this point of time…or to be honest can’t afford to really 🙂 Already walked the Raj this Jan in Shimla but Ooty definitely sounds good and on my wishlist too. All in all there’s something for everyone here to choose from and make the most and best of their summer holidays in India…Bravo…Keep them coming…Cheers!
Wonderful Information on summer holidays in India and your way of presentation is superb. Thanks for sharing and keep updating… 🙂
