Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Adilabad district which is 50 kms away from Mancherila and is 250 kms away from Hyderabad. The sanctuary is a dry deciduous forest with teak, bamboo and other varieties of trees, shrubs and herbs. Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary experiences hot and dry climate in the summer months. But the monsoon commences from June and continues to September which adds life to the forest. Winter is the best season to visit the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is the home ground for animals like Sambar, Cheetal, Nilgai, Barking Deer, Indian Bison, Sloth Bear, Panther and Tiger. In this wildlife sanctuary tourists can find reptiles like Python, Crocodile, Star Tortoise, Monitor Lizard and Cobra.
Apart from animal family various species of birds can also be pointed out. There are various birds like Partridge, Quails, Peacocks, Eagles, Kites, Owls, Mynahs, and Kingfishers. In the winters the treetops and the water body’s remain filled with the chirping sound of migratory birds.
Tourists can experience the nights in the jungle as after the sun sets the jungle changes totally and the sanctuary takes a scary and dangerous shape after sun down. To feel the ambience tourist can spend the overnight in Forest Guest House at Jannaram.
The jeep safaris, jungle tours and bird watching trips make the tourist to spot various animals in their respective habitat.
Hyderabad is the nearest airport which is well connected by both domestic and international flights.
Kawal-Mancherial Railway station is the nearest rail head to reach the wildlife sanctuary.
By road route you can avail cars, jeeps or buses as it is 260 kms away from Hyderabad. The state transport buses are the best way to reach the sanctuary.
