A small town located on the banks of the River Mananthavady, in the Waynad District of Kerala, Mananthavady was once ruled by a person called Raja Pazhassi. It is the place where he was buried after death. There is a tomb dedicated to Raja Pazhassi which is considered as one of the most important heritage places in the town. Some important places of interest in the region include Thirunelli Temple, Valliyoorkkavu Temple, Mananthavady Park, Malakari Temple, Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary and the Brahmasthan Temple.

Pazhassi Raja Tomb

Dedicated to Veera Pazhassi Raja, popularly known as the Lion of Kerala, Pazhassi Raja Tomb is a beautiful tomb built in Mananthavady, Waynad. He was a key player in the Indian independence revolution and was killed in a ferocious encounter by British. There is a cave nearby Pazhassi Tomb by the name of Pulpally Cave. It is the place where Veer Pazhassi Raja took refuge until British captured him.

Begur Wildlife Sanctuary

Located at Mananthavady, around 20 kilometers from Wayanad, Begur National Park is one of the most visited places in Waynad and is quite famous for its large variety of wildlife. A dense blanket of lush green trees covers the entire sanctuary. Most of the trees have rare medicinal values. The wildlife sanctuary has a huge variety of animals such as deer, elephant, boars, tigers, leopards etc. and avian population. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from December to May.

Valliyoorkkavu Temple

Located 3 kilometers away from the town, Valliyoorkkavu Temple is dedicated to Mother Goddess, who is worshipped here in three principal forms such as Vana Durga, Jala Durga and Bhadrakali. It is one of the most important places to worship for the tribal communities. The annual 15 day festival that takes place in March/April is the grandest festival in the district.

Located on the Mysore Road, The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery plays host to the exhibitions of various Indian artists and organizes cultural events on a regular basis.

Thirunelli Temple

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple situated on the Brahmagiri Hill in Kerala. The temple is perched at an altitude of 900 meters in North Waynad and is encompassed by verdant mountains and beautiful forests. The temple draws pilgrims from all around the world, mainly for ancestral rites. Another major attraction of this temple is the Holy Rock where devotees pray for their ancestors.
