Tourist Attractions in Samode

Samode is a quaint village at the foot of the rugged Aravali Range in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Samode is located 42 km to the North West of Jaipur and can be easily reached from either Jaipur or Delhi in a matter of 2 hours at the most, by road. The tourist attractions in Samode constitute mostly of palaces, fortresses and havelis, famous for their vibrant, detailed frescos.

Samode Palace:
With the sands of the Thar Desert and the rugged Aravalis as the backdrop, the Samode Palace sprawls majestically with its carved casements and parapets and facades, over beautifully landscaped gardens. The Samode palace which belongs to the Rawals of Samode, is about 400 years old and was originally built as a simple Rajput stronghold and was later expanded and developed into the exquisite structure as we admire it today.

The sheesh mahal or the place of mirrors is the most exquisite feature of the palace.

The Samode Palace exhibits a unique architectural style. The palace is built on three levels, each with its own courtyard. The highlight of the palace is the exquisite Darbar Hall or the courtroom, the walls of which are covered with intricate frescos and miniature paintings in the Rajput school of art.

The Samode Palace is one of the most important Tourist Attractions in Samode India. The palace has lately been converted into a heritage hotel run by the royal family.

Samode Bagh:
Tthe Samode Bagh located three kilometers away from the village, is a walled garden that once served as the recreation grounds for the residents of the Samode Palace. Flower beds, well manicured lawns, and fruit orchards are to be seen at the Samode Bagh which is one of the major Samode Tourist Attractions. It is an oasis of color and greenery amidst the dry rugged expanse of an ochre desert.

The Fort of Sheograrh:
The old fort of Sheograrh is half and hour walk away from the Samode Village. This is where the people of Samode gathered and barricaded themselves in times of war. It is a rather austere building built on traditional lines.
